My name is Olivia Becker, and I’m a senior at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School in New York City. I spent last semester attending the School for Ethical and Global Leadership in Washington, DC . I joined this vibrant organization with the mission of bringing young people from opposite ends of the political spectrum together to listen to each other and deliberate, building mutual respect and empathy in the process. Beyond Next Gen, I am committed to shaping the communities I am a part of. I am a leader of my Model United Nations team and an Editor in Chief of my school’s newspaper, where I hope to present all sides of a story and circulate the truth. I am also the vice-chair of the Park Avenue Synagogue Food Pantry, an intern for Congressman Max Rose (NY-11), and a member of the Seeds of Peace network. As Next Gen’s National Director of Outreach and Engagement and a member of the podcast team, I am deeply devoted to spreading Next Gen’s pedagogy, consequently minimizing the hyper-partisanship present in society. My involvement in Next Gen, starting as a Civic Fellow two years ago, has furthered my understanding that the diverse youth voice of today should be heard, amplified, and valued in our modern political landscape.
