Mubasshir Mumtaz

My name is Mubasshir and I am a senior at the Scholars’ Academy in Rockaway Park, New York. Over the summer, I participated in the civic fellowship, where I was able to engage in meaningful discussion with students from unique backgrounds. Over my time in high school, I participated in a variety of clubs, such as my school’s MSA, which helped to shed light on common issues faced by underrepresented communities. I enjoy being able to expand my perspective about political issues in order to become a more empathetic person. Ultimately, I believe that it is imperative for individuals to be well informed decision makers with open minds. 

I am enthusiastic to participate in this year’s fellowship. I hope to be able to encourage my peers to share their opinions openly knowing that NextGen is a safe space where a variety of ideas can be discussed in a respectful manner.
